Collaborative, evidence-informed consultation that helps clinicians, programs, and organizations navigate complex challenges, strengthen effective practice, and develop thoughtful, sustainable approaches to the work.
Complex clinical work rarely happens in isolation. Clinicians, teams, and organizations are often balancing the needs of the individuals they serve with staffing realities, program expectations, ethical responsibilities, organizational culture, and systems that may not easily support effective care.
Consultation offers a collaborative space to step back, think clearly, and consider what may help. Whether the focus is a complex clinical situation, the development of a new program, or a broader organizational challenge, I provide practical, evidence-informed guidance tailored to the needs, strengths, and realities of each setting.
Clinical Consultation
Clinical consultation is available for clinicians and teams seeking another perspective on complex cases, treatment challenges, clinical dynamics, or the application of DBT-informed and trauma-responsive approaches.
Consultation may include:
The goal is not to provide a formula or prescribe a single response. It is to help professionals examine the situation from multiple perspectives, clarify priorities, and identify approaches that are clinically sound, compassionate, and realistic.
Program Consultation
Program consultation supports teams that are developing, strengthening, or adapting clinical and behavioral health services. This may include programs seeking to become more DBT-informed, improve their use of skills-based interventions, strengthen trauma-responsive care, or create greater consistency across staff roles.
Areas of consultation may include:
Program consultation can be offered during the early planning stages, when an existing program feels stuck, or as follow-up support after professional training.
Organizational Consultation
Organizational consultation looks beyond a single case or program to consider the systems, communication patterns, and workplace conditions influencing service delivery.
Organizations may seek consultation when they are:
Organizational change requires more than asking individual staff members to work harder. Consultation can help identify the conditions, structures, and patterns that may be supporting or interfering with effective practice.
My Approach to Consultation
My consultation style is collaborative, direct, and grounded in curiosity rather than judgment. I recognize that most clinical and organizational challenges do not have one simple cause—and that solutions must account for the people, relationships, resources, and systems involved.
I bring together evidence-informed clinical knowledge, systems thinking, practical implementation experience, and respect for the lived realities of those doing the work. I aim to help clinicians and organizations identify both what needs to change and what is already working and worth strengthening.
Consultation may involve thoughtful questioning, education, case or program review, collaborative problem-solving, implementation planning, and the development of practical next steps. Recommendations are tailored to the setting rather than imposed as a one-size-fits-all model.
Experience That Informs My Work
I bring more than 25 years of experience in behavioral health treatment, clinical leadership, program development, staff training, supervision, and consultation.
Before founding Lotus & Lion, I spent more than 20 years at Open Sky Community Services and ultimately served as Director of DBT and Trauma Services. In that role, I oversaw the implementation of DBT and trauma-informed services across the agency, led consultation teams, supported programs serving individuals with complex needs, provided training and consultation, and directed the agency’s Trauma Response Team.
I have also provided consultation and training for school systems, nonprofit agencies, community-based programs, and the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services. This experience allows me to understand both the clinical ideals organizations are working toward and the real-world conditions affecting implementation.
Consultation Formats
Consultation may be offered as:
The format, goals, expected outcomes, and scope of the consultation are established before the work begins.
Consultation, Supervision, and Treatment
Consultation is distinct from clinical supervision and does not replace supervision required for professional licensure, employment, or organizational oversight. It also does not establish a therapist-client relationship between me and any individual whose care may be discussed.
Professionals remain responsible for their own clinical decisions, documentation, ethical obligations, and adherence to applicable laws, regulations, professional standards, and organizational policies. Clinical material should be shared in a manner that appropriately protects privacy and confidentiality.
Consultation is also not legal advice, emergency response, or a substitute for an organization’s established clinical, risk-management, or crisis procedures.
Beginning a Consultation
Consultation begins with a conversation about what is happening, who is involved, what has already been attempted, and what you hope will be different. From there, we can determine whether a focused consultation, ongoing support, customized training, or another resource would best fit the need.
If you are seeking thoughtful, practical support for a clinical, program, or organizational challenge, I invite you to reach out.
